Bournemouth v Watford Betting Preview 12/01/2020

Bournemouth versus Watford isn’t the most glamorous match of the weekend in the Premier League but it might be the most important.

Despite coming into the season with hopes of pushing for a top half finish, both teams find themselves in the heart of the relegation battle. Bournemouth have a slight advantage but it’s Watford who head into Sunday’s match with all the momentum.

While Bournemouth are winless in their last four matches, Watford haven’t lost in four. Nigel Pearson’s men have fought their way off the bottom of the table and are looking for another big result in this relegation six-pointer.

Watford a Good Price for the Win

Bournemouth fans understand that there are extenuating circumstances behind their club’s recent poor form. There’s nothing short of an injury crisis at the club, with the defence especially badly hit. At the same time, Bournemouth’s strikers are really struggling for form which is a recipe for disaster.

Those problems have not saved Eddie Howe from criticism. To be fair to him, Howe hasn’t tried to run from his responsibility whether talking to the press or apologising to the fans in person.

Howe has done an incredible job taking Bournemouth up to the top flight and keeping them there. Managers do run out of steam after being at a club for a long time though and that might just be what we’re witnessing at the Vitality Stadium.

Managers eventually running out of steam is not a problem that Watford have had since the Pozzo family took control. They don’t change managers at the drop of the hat and, after sacking two already this season, may have found somebody capable of guiding the Hornets away from relegation.

Nigel Pearson has form when it comes to saving teams who look destined from the Championship. He’s transformed Watford from a side who looked beaten when they took to the pitch to one who are very difficult to beat.

Watford are the underdogs for Sunday’s match but given the difference in form and confidence between the two sides, you’d have to say they look well priced to win at 24/13 with Sportingbet.

Nerves to Keep Scoring Down

Watford have done very well of late but confidence is a fragile thing. Pearson knows very well that things can change quickly and that one defeat can spiral into an extended run.

He also knows how important it is to get on top of an opponent low in confidence. Watford will look to come out and get an early lead on Saturday, with the hope of turning the home fans against Bournemouth.

For their part, Bournemouth are sure to have done a lot of work on the training ground on their defensive shape following their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of West Ham. Their first job will be to blunt Watford’s attacking threat before pushing forward for the win.

The first job may be easier than the second.

Nerves will play a major part in this match. It’s a game that neither side can really afford to lose and we expect chances to be at a premium.

Therefore, a bet on under 2.5 goals looks fairly safe at evens with BetVictor. If you agree that this is likely to be a slow burner, take the odds of 2/1 that bet365 are quoting on the first half ending goalless.
