Brighton v Tottenham Betting Preview 05/10/2019

Chris Hughton was a very popular figure at Brighton throughout his time as the club’s manager. He’ll always be a huge figure at the club as he’s the manager who took the Seagulls back into the Premier League.

However, almost every Brighton fan will tell you that sacking Hughton at the end of last season was the right decision. That’s despite all Hughton did for the club and the relatively disappointing start that Graham Potter as made at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton fans knew that their club needed fresh direction and a change in emphasis towards the end of last season. That’s a realisation that some Tottenham fans have come too lately.

Like Hughton, Mauricio Pochettino will always be held in the highest regard by Spurs fans. Indeed, he is still very much in charge at the club and may just lead them on to even bigger things. The humiliating 7-2 loss against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night led even more fans and pundits to suggest that it is now time for something fresh at Spurs.

Time will tell whether those suggestions are premature or not. It’s the short-term challenge of picking up three points on the South Coast that is taking the attention of the Tottenham manager, players and fans for the time being.

Spurs to Relish Return to Action

The fall of any great manager includes a number of rumours coming out of the club. The media has been full of stories suggesting that Pochettino wants out of Tottenham, that some players have grown bored by his methods and training and even of major schisms within the group.

It’s rarely as bad as the papers make out, but it’s clear that the Tottenham dressing room is not a happy place to be at the moment. Could that actually be bad news for Brighton though?

No team who reaches the Champions League final becomes a bad side overnight. Despite their problems, Spurs were excellent against Crystal Palace, dug deep to beat Southampton with 10 men last week and were unfortunate not to go into the break with a lead against Bayern.

This is a team who can beat any other on their day and the Tottenham players are probably itching to get back on the pitch and put their off-field problems to one side. Brighton are bang out of form with no win since their first match of the season so Spurs are surely overpriced at evens with Black Type.

Can Goal-Shy Brighton Give Their Fans Something to Cheer?

Graham Potter arrived at Brighton with a reputation as a very good coach. After making his name in Sweden, Potter did enough in just one season with Swansea to convince Tony Bloom and the rest of the Brighton board that he was the man to take the club forward.

The main hope from the Brighton fans was that their team would play with more freedom than under Hughton. Whilst Potter likes his team to play on the front foot wherever possible, Brighton have so far scored just five goals from their seven league matches.

Only Watford and Newcastle have scored fewer goals than Brighton. That is very good news for Hugo Loris and the Tottenham defence who have had plenty of critics in the last couple of months.

Brighton are still a work in progress and should come good over the course of the season. Whether they can score against a Tottenham side desperate to restore some pride after Wednesday night is another question, and we recommend backing the away side to keep a clean sheet at 2/1 with Coral.

We also recommend backing Harry Kane to score the game’s first goal at 16/5 with 888Sport. Kane is proud to be Tottenham captain and will do all he can to make up for Tuesday night and send the travelling fans home happy.
