England v Sri Lanka World Cup Betting Preview 21/06/2019

The ICC Cricket World Cup is well underway and when the weather hasn’t been sticking its beak in there has been some fantastic action taking place. Friday 21st June 2019 see’s England host Sri Lanka at Headingley in another match and with the weather so far looking fine for it, and it being live on Sky Sports we thought it would be perfect for a betting preview, so here it is!

Unfortunately for Sri Lanka they have lost 2 matches to the weather in this World Cup and lost 2 against Australia and New Zealand with their only win coming against Afghanistan, which is not a great record. England on the other hand have won 4 with only 1 loss coming against Pakistan which came as somewhat of a surprise. So quickly looking at current form it will come as no surprise that England are clear favourites with Betfair offering the best odds currently at 1/9 whilst Sri Lanka are as big as 8/1 with Coral and Ladbrokes to pull off a mini shock.

With those odds not looking especially appealing unless you fancy back Sri Lanka it might be worth looking at the Highest 1st 15 Overs betting market. Although Jason Roy has been ruled out through injury Vince and Bairstow are likely to open and can certainly score heavy and at pace once, or if, they get in. We think Sri Lanka will take a more slow and steady approach to batting trying to build a decent total so the 7/20 Unibet are offering on England to score more in the 1st 15 overs looks a decent bet. Coral and Ladbrokes are both offering the biggest odds again on Sri Lanka with odds of 7/2, but we would only be looking at England here.

An exciting betting market we like is the top batsman markets and the England market is very interesting. Just about everyone in the England team is capable of scoring huge scores on their day, but it would be a rather disastrous day for England for that to happen, we aren’t counting Ben Stokes in this by the way. In this betting market we would pick out Joe Root first to be the Top England Batman. He has been in fine form this World Cup and playing on his home ground the 3/1 Betfair and Paddy Power are both offering looks generous. We don’t normally back 2 bets in the same market, after all, they both can’t win (yes we know they can both top score but very unlikely) but we couldn’t resist a back-up bet. If England have a frustrating yet productive day when most of the batsmen get starts yet fail to convert to huge score Jos Buttler could come in and quickly rack up a big score. The 13/2 Betfred are offering on Buttler looks very tasty indeed and well worth a back-up bet.

If you want to make the Sri Lankan betting innings more interesting we suggest a little look at betting on Perera to top score for Sri Lanka. The best odds you can currently claim are 4/1 from either William Hill or Bet365.

The Top England Bowler betting market is another of great interest but a great deal does depend on the team that plays and currently that hasn’t been announced yet. The favourite in the market is Jofra Archer and that does come as no real surprise. Archer has been in fantastic form since making his England debut and the 11/4 Marathonbet are offering should be snapped up.

For the Top Sri Lanka Bowler betting the favourite in the market is bowling legend Lasith Malinga at 3/1 with most bookies. We are going to overlook Malinga though mainly because he gets left some overs for the tail and the match might be over by then. So we are looking at Nuwan Pradeep who can be found at Bet365 and William Hill with betting odds of 9/2 currently.

One final bet we are going to look at is whether a century will be scored by anyone in the match. There have been some massive scores by batsmen so far, and we’d be surprised if this doesn’t continue. Heading straight to Bet365 for the Yes bet at 8/13 looks a quality bet.
