Manchester City V Tottenham Hotspur Premier League Betting Preview 2018/19

Tottenham fans can be forgiven for pinching themselves when they woke up on Thursday morning. Their team somehow managed to come out on top of an absolutely incredible Champions League tie against Manchester City to book their place in the semi-finals, so it’s understandable if it takes some time for it all to sink in.

The Tottenham players themselves cannot allow themselves too much time to bask in Wednesday night’s win though. They have to return to the Etihad just three days later for what could be a pivotal match for both team’s Premier League ambitions.

Spurs’ goal in their five remaining matches is to ensure themselves a place in next season’s Champions League by finishing inside the Premier League’s top four. Man City’s goal is even loftier. Pep Guardiola’s men are the bookies’ favourites to win the title for the second year in a row but cannot afford to slip up with Liverpool showing no sign of slowing down.

City to Come Out on Top of Another Entertaining Match

Given all the praise that has rightly come Tottenham’s way it would be easy to forget that they actually lost Wednesday night’s match. For all the good that they did scoring three away goals without the injured Harry Kane, Tottenham allowed Man City to score four goals with a fifth only ruled out through a tight offside call.

Everybody at Man City will still be feeling the effects of their Champions League exit come kick-off on Saturday afternoon but there’s nothing like getting straight back on the horse. Pep Guardiola won’t be struggling for ways to motivate his players so expect to see the home side come out all guns blazing.

The most optimistic Man City fans will hope that their team’s chances of winning the Premier League have actually been enhanced after Wednesday as Guardiola and his squad can now focus entirely on domestic matters. That does add a certain amount of pressure, but they’ve lived up to the pressure so far in the league so back Man City to win the match and for there to be over 2.5 goals scored at 4/6 with Coral.

It took no time at all for Wednesday night’s match to catch fire. The first 11 minutes saw four goals scored, and although we’re not going to see that level of entertainment on Saturday it would be no surprise to see Man City do all they can to take an early lead.

At their best, City are masters of keeping possession and killing off a match in which they have a lead. They never really had the chance to do that in the Champions League due to a combination of the 1-0 first leg score and Tottenham’s brilliance going forwards, but it should be a little different in the Premier League match.

An early goal should allow Man City to control the flow of the match for long periods even if Tottenham’s ability on the counter means they’ll always be a threat. Therefore, we like the look of a bet on the Man City/Man City selection in Ladbrokes’ half-time/full time market at 20/23.

If Man City are to grab an early lead it could be Leroy Sane who secures it. Sane was forced to watch much of Wednesday night’s match from the bench so will be desperate to get into the thick of the action right from the start which makes him a good bet to score first at 11/2 with Sportingbet.
