Manchester United v Everton Betting Preview 15/12/2019

After such a disappointing season to date, the Goodison Park faithful finally had something to cheer last weekend. The Everton fans who turned up for the match against Chelsea could be forgiven for fearing the worst but they were treated to an excellent performance from their team with Duncan Ferguson in temporary charge.

The way that Ferguson tackled his first match in charge was, in some ways, reminiscent of the early days of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as Manchester United manager. Both men took control with a lot of goodwill from the fans thanks to their exploits as players and both used their passion for the club to motivate their players.

Solskajer’s honeymoon period came to an end towards the end of last season and many Man Utd fans openly questioned whether he was the right man for the job. The club have stuck with him though and he’s rewarded them recently with big wins over Tottenham and Manchester City.

Man Utd are now just five points off the top four and their task is simple – keep winning to bridge the gap with Chelsea.

Man Utd to Provide More Entertainment for Their Fans

The big take-home from Everton’s 3-1 win over Chelsea was Duncan Ferguson’s style. He clearly got his team fired up in the changing room before the match and told them to get stuck into the opposition.

The Everton fans responded to every big tackle and all the effort shown to create an excellent atmosphere at Goodison Park. The away fans will make more noise at Old Trafford in the hope of inspiring their team on to another blood and thunder result that secures another win.

Ferguson may well deserve more credit for the win over Chelsea than he’s getting though. The direct, front-to-back style that saw Everton whip crosses and long balls into the box was just what the Chelsea defence did not want to cope with. It looks to be a very astute piece of tactical acumen on Ferguson’s part.

It will be very interesting to see how he approaches Sunday’s match.

Everton are unlikely to earn the same results from a similar approach as Man Utd’s centre-back partnership of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire is much better placed to cope with an aerial bombardment.

Solskjaer also has a great deal of fast, direct, high class players to call on who can exploit any time Everton overcommit. United are also growing in confidence on the ball to break Everton down should they turn up with a plan to try and stubbornly sit back so the home team are well priced for the win at 4/5 with Unibet.

Two Quality Forwards Who Can Get on the Scoresheet

However, Ferguson decides to approach this match, you can be sure that he’ll expect his Everton team to create chances. A striker during his playing days, Ferguson understands the importance of goals to rattle the confidence of a home favourite.

Man Utd are not the only side with multiple quality options in attack. Richarlison looks set to play a vital role once again thanks to his pace, quality on the ball and aerial prowess. The Brazilian is one of the few positive legacies of Marco Silva’s time at Everton and can show just how good he is by scoring at Old Trafford at odds of 3/1 with Paddy Power.

As for the home side, they will once again lean on the burgeoning strike partnership between Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

When at their best, the two are virtually unplayable but they’ve so far found it difficult to find their best stuff with too much consistency. With Man Utd likely to have most of the ball, the midfield will have to play smart passes to get Rashford and Martial in behind the Everton defence.

Both scored against Man City but it’s Martial who gets the nod to score on Sunday at the odds with 888Sport going top price at 31/20.
