Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Betting Preview 11/01/2020

Before the hectic Christmas period, the fear for Liverpool fans was that the sheer amount of matches they had to play would catch up with them.

Having seen his teams fall away in the latter stages of previous seasons, Jurgen Klopp did everything he could to ensure his players remained as fit and fresh as possible. That meant sacrificing their EFL Cup quarter-final, gambling with their place in the FA Cup and rotating the first team in the Premier League.

To the great delight of Klopp and all Liverpool fans, they’ve come through their festive schedule as well as could be hoped.

The Reds won the World Club Cup, beat Everton in the FA Cup with a glorified youth team and head into Saturday evening’s match against Tottenham 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool to Keep the Wins Coming

Liverpool have never been in a better position to win the Premier League title. Klopp, however, knows that there remains a lot of work before anybody can start celebrating.

The Reds’ mentality suggests there is little chance of them throwing this away. They are incredibly difficult to beat, even when not playing at their best, and deserve to be the clear favourites to beat Tottenham.

In years gone by, this is exactly the sort of match where Jose Mourinho would thrive. He famously managed Chelsea to victory at Anfield when Liverpool were gunning for the title in 2014, beating his chest at the final whistle in a sign of defiance.

Those days of Mourinho winning a tactical battle against a superior side seem a long way ago now.

He’s done little to convince sceptical Tottenham fans that he is the right man to take the club forward after Mauricio Pochettino. Pundits are almost falling over each other to describe Mourinho as yesterday’s man and it looks very unlikely that he’ll mastermind a way to stop Liverpool on Saturday.

Tottenham should be able to limit Liverpool’s chances to score but we still fancy the Reds to come through.

That leads us to a couple of betting tips. The first is on Liverpool to win the match at 8/11 with Betway. The second is a bit more of a risk, backing the Liverpool 2-0 correct score at 9/1 with bet365.

Salah Ready to be the Main Man Once Again

Liverpool’s ability to win whilst rotating their first team has only been possible because of the depth in quality of their squad. Klopp is able to call upon quality reinforcements all over the pitch but there is no doubt about his first-choice front three.

At times, each of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino has been called Liverpool’s most important player. All three have come up with important match-winning goals this season and all three will cause Spurs serious problems at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Of the three, it’s Salah who could be the best bet to score the game’s first goal. The Egyptian has a very good record against Tottenham, with five goals against Sunday’s opponents.

The most recent of those two of those goals were penalties, one in the Champions League final and the other in the Premier League meeting earlier this season. Salah will likely be on penalties again on Saturday so is the man to back to score first at 9/2 with Unibet.
