Wimbledon Tennis Championship Betting Preview 2019

The British summer has begun at just the right time. The temperature approached 34o in South West London over the weekend as the world’s best tennis players converged on Wimbledon for the third Grand Slam of the year.

Centre Court at Wimbledon is arguably the grandest stage in all of tennis. The winner of both the men’s and women’s tournament at the end of a fortnight of play will certainly be very proud of their achievement but who is going to get over the line?

Tough to Look Past Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is one of many top class players who decided to forgo the chance to play competitive grass court tennis before Wimbledon. Instead, he chose to head to Wimbledon early and get some good quality preparation work in with his coaching team.

Who are we to argue with the defending men’s singles champion? Whether he believed he needed a rest after the French Open or that his game is in good enough shape without taking in a grass court tournament, the bookies are unconcerned with his decision.

Djokovic is the clear favourite across the board with the 7/5 that Unibet are quoting the best price you’ll find about the world number one. He’s been on a tear since winning Wimbledon last year, and although he could only make it to the semi-finals at Roland Garros, Djokovic is as confident as ever and is very much the most likely winner of the men’s singles to make sure to have him on board.

Pliskova Looks Ready

Whilst Djokovic has been on site for some time, the defending women’s champion, Angelique Kerber took a different route. She took in the Eastbourne International to try and get her game razor sharp for Wimbledon and will rightly be happy to have made it right through to the final.

It wasn’t quite the perfect warm up week for Kerber though. She qualified for the final thanks to a walkover in the semi-final when Ons Jabeur had to pull out and was comprehensively beaten by Karolina Pliskova in the final.

That was Pliskova’s second title win at Eastbourne but this year’s victory was much more impressive than in 2017. She claimed the title without dropping a set to justify the hard work she has put in with her coach, Conchita Martinez.

Pliskova looks mentally stronger than ever before whilst her game is really coming together nicely on the grass. A weak second serve is still the big concern but providing she can keep her first serve percentage up, Pliskova looks a good bet to win her maiden Grand Slam title at 7/1 with Bethard.

Konta to Delight the Home Fans

The women’s singles in every Grand Slam is very tough to predict. The depth in quality means that any number of players could make a run deep into the second week and perhaps even win Wimbledon should they build up a head of steam so there are several women worth considering for an each-way bet.

Britain’s Johanna Konta is right up there at 25/1 with Boylesports. She played some incredible tennis at the French Open and has looked steady upon her return to grass courts. Konta’s powerful ground strokes have seen her make the Wimbledon semi-final before and with a new-found belief in her ability to compete at the top level she could go one step further this year.
