Arsenal v Everton Betting Preview 23/02/2020
Mikel Arteta’s first job as Arsenal manager was a watching brief. He had just been appointed to replace Unai Emery when the Gunners travelled to Goodison Park and rather than interrupting the team’s preparation for the match, he left it to Freddie Ljungberg.
Everton manager, Carlo Ancelotti, did the same. Save for popping into the home dressing room at Goodison Park to talk to his new players, he left the tactics in the hands of Duncan Ferguson.
Both managers were left with an idea of how much work there was for them to do at the end of a drab and goalless 90 minutes. It’s fair to say that they’ve both since added plenty to their respective teams and that Sunday’s meeting of the two will provide much more entertainment.
Can the Toffee’s Revival Continue?
Since that 0-0 draw with Arsenal, Everton have played eight league matches under Ancelotti. His record reads – won five, drawn two and with a sole defeat coming away to Manchester City.
Everton fans are delighted with the start that their team has made under the experienced manager and will feel confident about their chances of pulling off a big win at the Emirates.
Arsenal fans are also much happier with their lot at the moment. The Gunners may have found wins a little tough to come by since Arteta took control but there is no doubt they are a better team than under Emery.
Arteta has worked on a number of things, in particular Arsenal’s mentality. He was very happy with the way his team remained patient during Thursday night’s Europa League match against Olympiacos before taking their chance late on to get a 1-0 win in Piraeus.
He will, however, tell his team that one goal is not likely to be enough against an Everton side who have scored in every league game under Ancelotti. The Toffees have found clean sheets hard to come by though so a bet on both teams to score looks fairly safe at 4/6 with William Hill.
Both teams may also come away from the match with a share of the spoils. They’re both much improved but remain a long way from the finished article. Arsenal are the favourites but have to deal with the effects of their Europa League outing so the odds of 27/10 that Unibet are quoting on the draw are tempting.
Gunners May Need to Turn to an Unlikely Hero
Ancelotti has been in charge of some wonderful sides over the years. It hasn’t always gone to plan – there aren’t many people at Bayern Munich with too many good things to say about his coaching abilities – but he has shown he is able to get teams playing with real attacking verve.
Richarlison is one of many players who are thriving under Ancelotti’s guidance. The Brazilian is in such good form that he’s been linked with a big money move to Barcelona. His movement will make it tough for the Arsenal defence to keep tabs on him so take the odds of 47/20 that Paddy Power are offering on Richarlison scoring again.
As for an Arsenal scorer, it may be worth chancing a bet on David Luiz grabbing his third goal for the club at 12/1 with bet365. Everton have let in a number of set piece goals this season and Ancelotti is yet to really sort them out in that regard so Luiz may just take advantage from a corner or free kick.
