Liverpool v Everton Premier League Betting Tips and Preview 20/02/2021

Another full round of Premier League fixture take place this weekend as all 20 teams return to action. One of the biggest matches of the weekend sees Liverpool host Everton at Anfield in the 12:30 kick off on Saturday afternoon. This fixture is one of the biggest in the Premier League season for neutrals and supporters alike. Regularly filled with bite, goals, action and controversial moments, the Merseyside derby never disappoints, and, with both teams struggling for form recently but looking to get into the top four, there is plenty at stake in Liverpool this weekend.

Team News/Form

Liverpool lost a third consecutive Premier League game in a row for the first time since 2014 last weekend, throwing away a 1-0 lead in the final 15 minutes to lose 3-1 against Leicester. Despite winning 2-0 against RB Leipzig in mid-week, Liverpool have lost five of their last nine in all competitions. Jurgen Klopp’s side have also won just twice in their last 10 Premier League games, and are winless at home in five consecutive games (drawn two, lost three).

Everton suffered consecutive league losses for the first time since November this week, losing 3-1 to Man City and 2-0 to Fulham. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have one win won in six Premier League games, losing three and drawing two. Away from Goodison Park, the Toffees look solid and have won four and drawn three of their last seven.

Naby Keita could return for Liverpool this weekend but the Reds will be without Diogo Jota, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, James Milner and Fabio Taveres. Dominic Calvert-Lewin should return for Everton following a thigh injury but Yerry Mina will be out with a knock.

Matchwinner Odds

Liverpool come into the Merseyside derby as big favourites. The Reds last defeat in the derby came in 2010 – 23 matches ago and, to back Liverpool for another win, Unibet are offering the best odds of 13/25.

Although Liverpool holds a significant head-to-head advantage over their city rivals, a lot of recent matches between the sides have ended in draws. In the last seven meetings between Liverpool and Everton in the Premier League, five have been draws. SBK have enticing odds of 19/5 for another stalemate in the Merseyside derby this weekend.

However, our tip of the week is to back Everton to end their ten year wait for a win in this grudge match. For the Toffees to cause an upset at Anfield, William Hill are offering the best odds of 13/2, a potential winner given Everton’s good away form and Liverpool’s poor home record in recent weeks.

Goals Over/Under

In recent fixtures between Liverpool and Everton, there haven’t been many high scoring games. Only two of the last seven meetings between the sides have seen more than one goal – the reverse fixture this season at Goodison ended in a 2-2 draw and Liverpool won 5-2 in December 2019. To back more goals in this weekend’s match, BetVictor are providing odds of 13/8 for over 3.5 goals. But, for those expecting a more open game between these sides, BetFair will return 4/1 odds for over 4.5 goals.

Our next tip for this fixture is to back under 1.5 goals in the match at 19/5, offered by Paddy Power. Neither side will want to lose this game, which could lead to a tense match between the sides.

First Goal scorers

Both Liverpool and Everton have many talented attacking players, capable of providing the quality needed to win this fixture. For Liverpool, Mo Salah provides the biggest attacking threat and the Egyptian striker is the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 16 goals. For Salah to score first, Unitbet are offering 29/10.

Everton’s goal scoring fortunes could rest on the fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who trails Salah as the second-highest goalscorer this season with 13 goals. If he starts, the English striker is backed at 15/2 by Paddy Power to find the net first.

But our goal scorer tips this week is to go with BoyleSports 5/1 odds for Sadio Mane as the first goalscorer. Mane put in a man of the match performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Leipzig in mid-week and has found the net twice in his last four appearances so expect him to continue his positive form this weekend.
