Liverpool v Leicester City Betting Preview 05/10/2019

Liverpool were given an almighty scare in their Champions League match against Red Bull Salzburg. The Reds went into the match as the overwhelming favourites and showed why by putting three goals past their Austrian opponents in the first half.

However, Salzburg were undaunted and continued to push forwards, grabbing a goal before half-time. That appeared to make Liverpool much nervier than it should have. From being in complete control there was almost an air of inevitability about Erling Haaland’s equaliser on the hour mark.

Fortunately, Jurgen Klopp was able to rely on his world-class forwards to get Liverpool out of trouble. Mohamed Salah’s winner was warmly welcomed by the Anfield faithful but the match may just leave some mental scars. That’s exactly what Brendan Rodgers and his high-flying Leicester team will look to exploit when they visit Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Leicester Can End Liverpool’s Winning Run

Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United last weekend was far from the most convincing win of their 15-match winnings streak in the Premier League. Some of the Blades’ players were actually disappointed that they didn’t win the match which shows that Liverpool looked vulnerable at times.

Jurgen Klopp’s men certainly looked vulnerable at times against Salzburg. Yes, they are fully deserving of their place at the head of the Premier League and may well kick on to win the title. But Liverpool are far from infallible, something Leicester can make clear on Saturday afternoon by securing a draw at 15/4 with Betway.

Some at Leicester are rightly trying to play down talk of how far the team can go this season. Getting carried away at this early stage of the campaign is not a good idea. You can’t help but be impressed with the way the Foxes have improved under Rodgers’ management though.

Rodgers came within an inch of winning the title with a Liverpool side who were not as good as this current team. After Claude Puel’s somewhat dour football, Leicester are entertaining their fans again which, combined with some good defensive organisation and top-class players, suggests they’ll be able to maintain their push for a top six place.

Backing Goals the Safer Route to Profit

Such is Liverpool’s quality that backing the draw comes with a certain amount of risk. Punters who are looking for a safer betting option should, therefore, consider betting on there being a number of goals in this match.

Liverpool’s defence has looked a fair way from the commanding unit it was last season. Part of that is due to the loss of Alisson. Stand-in keeper, Adrian, is popular with the Liverpool fans, but he just isn’t as good as Alisson, one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

There’s also a feeling that some managers are working out how to take Liverpool on. Rodgers will certainly have learned lessons from the way Sheffield United dealt with Liverpool’s rampaging full-backs.

Given that Leicester have an array of top-class attacking talent, a bet on both teams to score should return at 4/5 with William Hill. Similarly, backing over 3.5 goals is more than tempting at best odds of 8/5 with Betfair.

When it comes to a specific Leicester player capable of scoring at Anfield, look no further than Jamie Vardy. The 32-year-old will enjoy a rest over the next week or so thanks to his decision to retire from international football so will give his all on Saturday and can add to his tally of five league goals at 47/20 with 888Sport.
