Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur Betting Preview 27/10/2019

Liverpool and Tottenham both used their midweek Champions League matches to bounce back from disappointing draws in the Premier League.

Liverpool were poor for the majority of their 1-1 draw with Manchester United but returned to something approaching their free-flowing best with the 3-0 away win over Genk. As for Spurs, their fans were desperate for something to cheer following an awful run of results and those in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were given that with the thumping 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade.

Their respective midweek performances set up their meeting at Anfield very nicely indeed. The bookmakers have Liverpool as the odds on favourites, but we all know that Tottenham are a match for everybody on their day.

Liverpool Can Come Through a Tough Match

Despite their win over Red Star on Tuesday night, the Tottenham fans heading to Merseyside will have a certain amount of trepidation. They’ve seen their team almost down tools on occasion this season most notably in the second half of their 7-2 loss against Bayern Munich and in their 3-0 loss at Brighton.

The rumour mill sparks into life with each poor Spurs result. Some have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is looking for a way out of the club while others suggest that the players are losing faith in his methods.

Pochettino tried to laugh off those rumours speaking after the Red Star win but there is no doubt that the Tottenham dressing room has not been a happy place this season. Liverpool will seek to make the most of any problems with Spurs’ morale by getting at the visitors as early as possible.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have had success against Tottenham of late with wins in their three most recent meetings. However, Spurs have scored in seven of their last nine matches against Liverpool, and we fancy them to do so again.

Liverpool’s defence hasn’t been anywhere near as impressive as during the last campaign but we do fancy their forwards to do enough to secure the win so back Liverpool to win a match in which both teams score at 15/8 with Boylesports.

Another way of profiting from an entertaining match is by betting on goals. Over 2.5 goals is odds on across the board but it may well be worth taking the extra risk of betting on over 3.5 goals at 5/4 with Betfair.

Salah’s Return a Major Boost

Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have played very well for Liverpool this season. Their performances have seen them come in for a great amount of praise, but they were unable to do it on their own against Manchester United.

Mane and Firmino looked much more comfortable against Genk with Mohamed Salah’s return from injury. Not only do they all feed off each other but their presence in the starting line up puts opponents on the back foot from a psychological perspective.

It took Salah some time to get up to speed on Wednesday night, but he finished the match very strongly. Jurgen Klopp will expect his talisman to take that form into the Spurs match. We expect so as well.

Salah loves performing on the biggest stage and could be the man to take this match away from Tottenham. So, consider taking a punt on Salah scoring two or more goals at 10/3 with bet365.
