Bournemouth v Arsenal FA Cup Betting Preview 27/01/2020
Bournemouth had some very welcome relief from their horror run and slide down the Premier League with a big win over Brighton in midweek.
That eased the pressure on Eddie Howe’s shoulders but the Cherries remain in the relegation zone so will need many more big performances if they are to pull away from the threat of the drop.
The midweek round of fixtures also brought a welcome boost of morale for Arsenal. The London derby against Chelsea got off to the worst possible start with David Luiz conceding an early penalty and being sent off. Mikel Arteta told his players to stay positive rather than retreating into their shells and the Gunners left Stamford Bridge with a very well-earned point.
Whilst Bournemouth and Arsenal are both primarily concerned with improving their position in the Premier League table, the FA Cup remains a target. A cup run would provide players, fans and management with a break from the slog of the league campaign so expect both teams to take Monday night’s match at the Vitality Stadium very seriously.
Arsenal’s Young Players to Impress
Mikel Arteta has high hopes for his time at Arsenal but he is still very much learning the ropes. He’s learning about what it takes to make the step up from a coach to a manager and he’s learning about what his players are capable of.
The FA Cup gives Arteta a chance to play some younger players who are on the fringes of the Arsenal first team and see how they cope with the responsibility and pressure.
Arsenal always used to play a lot of youth prospects in the cup during Arsene Wenger’s time at the club and Arteta has several high potential players to call upon for Monday’s match.
The likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Reiss Nelson have all features in the first team several times already this season. They will help the other younger players given a chance on Monday night.
A team full of players playing without fear should be just what Arsenal need on Monday night. Especially against a Bournemouth team who are carrying many mental scars from some awful recent results.
Bournemouth know they can approach this game differently to a Premier League match where their future is on the line and they should pour forward freely at times. It’s unlikely that will be enough to keep them in the hat though so have a bet on Arsenal winning the game and over 2.5 goals being scored at 9/5 with Paddy Power.
Martinelli Can Shine Again
Of all the young players at Arsenal, Gabrielle Martinelli is perhaps the one about whom the club have the highest hopes. The Brazilian scored for fun in the Europa League earlier in the season and has taken the demands of Premier League football in his stride.
He showed a combination of athleticism, technical ability and coolness when scoring against Chelsea in midweek. That combination is the hallmark of a very good forward in the modern game so Martinelli looks to have a very bright and successful future ahead of him.
Martinelli is sure to cause a Bournemouth defence which is still beset by injuries all sorts of problems on Monday night so a bet on him scoring two or more goals looks tempting at 14/1 with Coral.
