British Grand Prix F1 Betting Preview 14/07/2019
The British Grand Prix is one of the country’s premier sporting events. After initially switching between various racetracks, the race eventually found its long term and exclusive home in Silverstone.
This year’s British Grand Prix is the 70th edition on the Formula 1 schedule. For a long time it looked as though celebrations for that landmark would be muted as administrators at Silverstone moved to stop hosting Formula 1 due to increasing costs.
Thankfully for British motorsport fans, news recently broke that the British Grand Prix will remain at Silverstone until 2024 at least. That will put those making the pilgrimage to the track on the Buckinghamshire/Northamptonshire border in a celebratory mood, and they may be even happier come Sunday afternoon if the bookies’ predictions of a Lewis Hamilton win are correct.
Hamilton to Get It Right This Year
Lewis Hamilton has been the dominant force in Formula 1 pretty much from the moment he signed with Mercedes. The British driver is in the middle of another hugely impressive season and is as short as 1/16 with some bookies to win the drivers’ championship once again.
He was in a similarly strong position when he arrived at Silverstone last year. After qualifying in pole position, Hamilton was the clear favourite to win the race but Formula 1 is often difficult to predict, and he got into big trouble at the first corner of the race.
That put him right at the back of the field, and although he battled incredibly well to work his way through the field, second was the best he could do.
Hamilton is more than ready to put the disappointment of last year firmly in the past. He has the chance to become the most successful F1 driver in Silverstone history this week which adds further motivation to the events of the recent Austrian Grand Prix.
Austria was the first race not to be won by either Hamilton or his Mercedes teammate, Valterri Bottas. The Silver Arrows have only been able to dominate Formula 1 by relentlessly pushing for better and the whole team will be expecting more from themselves this weekend.
Hamilton is always quick to praise his team, but he knows he is the most important member. His supreme form at Silverstone and knowledge of the track makes him the worthiest of favourites and should see him win a sixth British Grand Prix at biggest odds of 4/5 with Paddy Power.
Ferrari Gunning for Another Big Weekend
It was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who made the most of Mercedes’ inability to win the Austrian Grand Prix a fortnight ago. That was just one important storyline from that race though.
Ferrari fans finally had something for them to be excited about at the Red Bull Ring. Charles Leclerc did brilliantly to qualify in pole position whilst Sebastian Vettel did well enough to finish fourth.
Vettel was the man who capitalised on Hamilton’s problems last year at Silverstone so will be feeling confident about his chances upon his return. Leclerc is also growing in confidence and Ferrari are hopeful of at least finishing the season strongly.
To capitalise on another potentially good showing from Ferrari, consider a bet on them both finishing on the podium at the best price of 13/10 with Coral.
