England v India ICC Cricket World Cup Betting Preview 30/06/2019
England knew that they were already up against it when they took on Australia on Tuesday. The World Cup hosts had already lost twice before their meeting with their old rivals at Lord’s but some loose bowling and uncharacteristic batting mistakes saw them slump to a 64 run loss.
Although Eoin Morgan has tried to remain positive by reminding everybody that England’s fate is still in their own hands, they now must win their last two matches against two of the best ODI teams in the game.
Before England can even think about taking on New Zealand they face another daunting opponent in the shape of India who arrive at Edgbaston full of confidence having beaten the West Indies at a canter last time out.
Edgbaston Crowd to be Treated to a Thriller
Perhaps the most disappointing thing about England’s loss to Australia was the way that their batsmen fell into the traps set by the Aussies. The number of times Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting were caught celebrating a wicket as another of their plans for the England batsmen came to fruition told a very clear story.
England deserves a small amount of praise for not retreating into their shells in quite the same way as they did against Sri Lanka at Headingley but too many of the wickets were predictable. That was certainly the case for Eoin Morgan who fell to yet another short delivery early in his innings leaving he and the rest of England’s batsmen with a lot of preparation work to do for India’s fearsome bowling attack.
India and their backroom staff will certainly have done their homework. They have been battling with England for the number one world ranking in ODI cricket thanks to the quality of their players and the thoroughness of their preparations.
India are also so far unbeaten in the Cricket World Cup, so it’s little surprise that they are the favourites with the bookmakers to beat England on Sunday. England’s home advantage will also be whittle away in as much as thousands of Indian fans will pack into Edgbaston. Summer has finally arrived in Britain as well so an increasingly baked pitch could play into India’s hands.
All of this combines to provide a very tough test for England. It’s one they have no choice but to pass though, and we think they’ll just about manage to do enough to win at the best price of evens with Coral.
Buttler Gives England Hope
England’s position as pre-tournament favourites for the 2019 Cricket World Cup was largely down to the impressive amount of firepower in their batting line up. Jos Buttler is arguably the most impressive of all of England’s batsmen, and it’s often said that they have a chance in any game as long as his wicket is yet to fall.
Buttler’s importance was made clear by the veracity of the Australian celebrations when they took his wicket on Tuesday. India will feel much better about themselves when they get Buttler out, but he should make them work hard for his wicket. Buttler is well-placed to have a major impact on this match and therefore looks a good bet to be England’s top runscorer at 7/1 with Ladbrokes.
