Manchester City v Chelsea Betting Preview 23/11/2019
Manchester City’s defeat at Anfield a fortnight ago put another big dent in their hopes of winning the Premier League title for a third year in a row. The Citizens don’t only trail Liverpool by nine points but are below both Leicester and Chelsea in the table.
Whether either the second or third placed teams will kick on to genuinely challenge for the title remains to be seen. What is clear though, is that Man City will want to land a blow to Chelsea on Saturday evening.
Man City to Draw on Their Experience
Despite the 3-1 reversal, Pep Guardiola told anybody who would lesson that he was happy with the performance of his players against Liverpool. Man City certainly had their moments and could have even snatched a draw had they taken their chances in the second half.
That would have been against the run of play though. Guardiola can complain all he likes about the officials (and there were some strange decisions at Anfield) but the truth was that Liverpool were the better team on the day.
Liverpool have also been the better team in general over the course of the new season.
Man City have been here before though. They had to fight back from a deficit and the odds to win the title last season and will draw on that experience this time around.
Man City will also draw on their experience against Chelsea, albeit in a broader sense.
Frank Lampard has done a brilliant job since taking over from Maurizio Sarri. There is obviously a great deal of work ahead for him but Lampard could have the makings of something special at Stamford Bridge.
No special team gets there without the odd bump in the road though. This young Chelsea side are still learning a lot about the Premier League and themselves.
We think Chelsea will learn just what a top quality side Man City are on Saturday. Lampard’s men have the quality to score at the Etihad, but we recommend betting on Man City winning and both teams scoring at 31/20 with Coral.
Can Chelsea Make a Flying Start?
There are a few main benefits to Chelsea having such an array of impressive young talent. One is that Lampard gets the opportunity to mould the likes of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Fikayo Tomori in his own image. Another is that Chelsea turn up even to very big matches with a real lack of fear.
Chelsea will be in no doubt that they are the underdogs on Saturday evening. We’re talking about a side with a very low average age who have yet to win anything against the two-time defending Premier League champions.
Man City should have the required quality to win this match but Chelsea may well take them by surprise. Expect the away side to show their intent straight away and maybe even to score the first goal.
There are a couple of ways to profit from this from a betting perspective.
A bet on Tammy Abraham to score first looks very well priced at 9/1 with bet365 given his incredible form this season. Another option is backing Man City to win from behind at 13/2 with BetVictor.
